The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturing (FMM) has urged stronger incentives, easier financing and technology support to help SMEs grow. Its published coverage welcomes Budget 2027 measures while calling for further support for business expansion and competitiveness. Read FMM’s coverage.

This is an industry response and set of requests. It does not establish that a new AI grant is open, that a tax proposal has become law, or that a particular business qualifies for funding.

Plan for the work around the software

AIO’s practical takeaway is to assess the whole adoption effort. A tool may produce a useful draft, yet people still need to prepare information, check accuracy and handle exceptions. Connections to existing systems also need someone responsible for maintenance.

For an illustrative SME quotation process, the first pilot might organise an enquiry and prepare a draft. Staff would confirm scope and pricing before issue. The budget should allow for setting up that process and teaching the team how to use it.

Separate the costs

Ask suppliers to distinguish configuration, integration, training, usage charges and ongoing support. Record what is included, what depends on volume and what requires a separate quotation. These are AIO’s implementation suggestions, not conditions announced by FMM.

Agree who can approve changes, pause the workflow and resolve an error. A short guide and clear support route can help staff adopt a new process consistently.

Test value before expanding

Measure completed work, checking time, corrections and recurring cost against the present process. Include unsuccessful cases. More AI activity does not by itself establish better productivity.

Confirm any funding or incentive with the administering agency before committing expenditure. Keep the project’s business purpose clear whether or not financial support is available.
