Siemens announced an expansion of its agentic AI collaboration with NVIDIA for electrical and thermal analysis in advanced 3D chip design. The company describes a workflow coordinating nine automated stages across seven engineering tools. Read Siemens' announcement.

In its benchmark studies, Siemens reports engineering effort reductions of up to 95% and exploration of up to 50 times as many design alternatives. These are vendor-reported results for a specialised engineering application. They are not forecasts for ordinary office automation or promises about what another business will achieve.

A useful question for smaller businesses

The announcement suggests a practical question: where does work slow down as it moves between your existing tools?

For a services business, that might be the journey from an enquiry to an approved quotation. Information arrives in one place, staff clarify the requirement, pricing is prepared elsewhere and approval happens in another channel. Improving a single drafting step may leave the handovers unresolved.

Map one complete journey

Our suggested starting point is a recent, representative case. Record the information received, the decisions made, the systems used and the person responsible at each stage.

Include the exceptions. What happens when information is missing, a price needs approval or a customer changes the request? A useful design should explain those routes as clearly as the routine path.

Choose where automation helps

Some steps may suit ordinary rules or a direct system connection. Others may benefit from AI assistance, such as preparing a draft from approved information. Review each step on its own requirements.

Keep important approvals visible. For an illustrative quotation workflow, an assistant could assemble a draft while staff confirm scope and price before issue. The design should preserve the reviewed version and show who is responsible for the next action.

Validate a result your team recognises

Before expanding, compare the new workflow with the original process. Check completion time, missing information, correction work and staff review effort. Include unsuccessful cases and recurring operating costs.

The Siemens announcement is a specialised example of coordinating tools toward a defined result. For an SME, the useful next step is to choose a smaller process that can be explained, measured and improved.
